Dental Cleaning
What does a Dental Cleaning include?
Exam
When you first visit Diamond Dental Hygiene, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire pertaining to your medical and dental history, which we will review together. You will then be asked if there are any specific concerns you have about your teeth.
Prior to your dental cleaning, we will do a full examination of your mouth which will include the following: an oral cancer screening, assessment of your oral tissues, gum measurements, and finally we will record any existing restorations and/or any visible defects of the teeth. This will help us determine the best course of treatment, and frequency, for your needs.
Scaling and Root Planing
This is the part everyone thinks of when they go for a “dental cleaning”. Your hygienist will remove the hard deposits and plaque from your teeth. Hard deposits are also known as tartar, which can harbour more plaque and contribute to various forms of gum disease
Polishing
After your cleaning is complete, a polish may be recommended to remove any left-over surface plaque and extrinsic staining. This will give you that “fresh” feeling after your dental cleaning.
Fluoride
At the end of your appointment, we recommend a fluoride treatment to help with the prevention of dental cavities and remineralization of the teeth. Prevention is always the best treatment!

Teeth Cleaning FAQs
What is a dental cleaning, and why is it necessary?
Our dental teeth cleaning clinic offers cleanings that remove plaque and tartar buildup. Regular brushing and flossing are important, but they can only remove some of the buildup. Cleanings help prevent cavities and gum disease. If you’re wondering about our teeth cleaning price, our dental cleaning costs are affordable.
How often should I get my teeth professionally cleaned?
It’s a good practice to get one’s teeth professionally cleaned every six months to ensure tartar and plaque don’t build up on the teeth and that gums are examined.
Is dental cleaning painful?
Most dental cleanings are not painful. Occasionally, some discomfort is felt, and that varies with each person. Usually, it is only temporary.
Are there any risks associated with teeth cleanings?
You may experience some sensitivity, gum irritation, or minor bleeding, but these are usually just temporary.
How long does a dental cleaning take?
Most dental cleanings take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the amount of plaque and tartar buildup.
Will my dental insurance cover the cost of dental cleaning for kids near me?
Most dental insurance plans cover the cost of semi-annual cleanings, since they are considered preventative care.
How can I maintain good oral hygiene between dental cleanings?
Brush twice daily and floss once a day. You may wish to use an antibacterial mouthwash, too. It’s a good idea to minimize eating sugary foods for optimal oral health.
